Gucci Turban was a podcast hosted by comedian Nimesh Patel and friend Asif Mansoor. The duo discusses topical issues and holds long-form interviews with prominent members of the South Asian diaspora in entertainment, comedy, healthcare, and more. I was commissioned to create the cover artwork for the podcast to be featured on prominent streaming platforms.
Inspiration
Gucci Turban is a satirical monicker stemming from an issue of cultural insensitivity by the Gucci brand. In 2019 the Italian fashion house released a simple blue turban priced at $750. Most notably, the turban is an article of faith worn by those who practice the Sikh religion and is meant to symbolize equality and should be accessible to all. Gucci's use of the article was a glaring example of appropriation and faced much backlash.
